Advice to you and I for 2020 | Happy new year

Cheers to the New Year

Happy new year to you and your loved ones. Cheers to the new decade. 2020 seems to be like the year everyone has been waiting for and it has finally arrived.

As a christian, I crossed over to 2020 from my church. It was a very refreshing experience. There was a lot of dancing, singing and exchange of pleasantries after 12:00am.

One thing I promised myself for this new year is to forget every disappointment and move forward with my goals.
The year 2020 is conceived by many individuals as the year where things become perfect for them. Even the Nigerian government has also contributed to this false ideology by talking about the '2020 vision' or 'vision 2020', as if Nigeria will magically transform to a first world country.

Some clerics from religious organizations have also misguided their followers, making them believe that 2020 is their 'year'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against optimism, I just feel that deliberate actions should be taken to match any form of optimism. This is what many religious clerics fail to let their followers know.

2020 Advice to Myself and You too

1. Brace yourself for challenges
There's no other way to put it, there will be challenges in the new year. Good things will happen for sure but some challenges will come our way to test our strength.
A wise man once said; 'pray and hope for the best but expect the worst'.

Don't let anyone fool you, you may have to go through hurdles to achieve your goals, especially when your goal is bigger than you.
Let us prepare our minds and faith against the challenges in the year 2020. Only those with strong faith will triumph over challenges in 2020.

2. Let God direct you in this new year

Yes, let God lead you throughout this year. As a christian, I have come to realize that everyone needs divine direction.
God leading you, can help you achieve your goals in a better way. Instead of being confused on what to do for this year, we should allow God make decisions for us because He owns everything you desire and He has the best plans for us.

If you're an atheist, well, you should get a believe system that can guide you and direct your decisions appropriately.
However, it will be very nice to try God even if it's just for this year.
Allow God to lead you through this year.

3. Be very clear and intentional about your goals for the year, 2020.

Saying you want to buy benz or buy a house without having a laid out plan and a valid direction is like saying you want to eat Jollof Rice without gathering the ingredients or knowing where to get jollof rice.

If we really want to achieve our goals for 2020, then we need to examine ourselves. We should find out the changes needed to be made in our lives for 2020 to be a better year than 2019. A poor man with a clear vision is better than a rich fool with zero vision.

Get to know which areas you need to improve on for a better 2020. Whether its getting a new car, the dream job, visa to Canada, or a serious relationship, you need to be clear and specific in your approach for the new year.

Though everything may not become clear all at once when you begin, but as you approach steadily, things will become clearer. By all means, try to avoid excuses and procrastination.

4. Never create a false impression

Last year was filled with drama and a lot of scandals because of the false impressions made by people via social media, especially twitter and Instagram.
Don't appear to be winning on social media while you're losing in real life. Doing this will mentally drain you and cause you to be depressed.

Instead, be real with people and connect with people on a pleasant level. Don't try to impress anyone falsely. The truth is, majority love to impress people they don't even like.
If you cant afford to attend a reunion or any ceremony, don't borrow money just to 'feel among', you'll regret it.

Save more than you spend. Don't flaunt false wealth or happiness. Be true to yourself. Be deliberate about managing your finances this year.

Don't fall for unnecessary pressure. Be real with yourself and your peers.

5. Be patient and sedulous

Patience will be very key in the year 2020. If you lack patience, then you need to start developing it. You can start developing patience by sitting down all through for a kettle of water to attain its boiling point. No phone or music, just sit and wait for the kettle to boil the water to the end. This exercise has been proven to work according to various psychology studies.

In this year, a lot can, and will happen. Your friends may have it quicker than you. Never judge your progress by comparing it with another person's progress. We are all different and we have our time to blossom.

Also, don't give up on your dreams and aspirations for this year. Even in the face of disappointment, keep going. Smile, even when it seems like situations around you are not favorable. I know it's not going to be that easy to just keep going but you'll have to become stronger in faith to overcome disappointments.

Don't rush into anything you are not sure of. Make sure you know what you're putting your money into before you start any investment. Avoid trying to become a professional at at skill overnight.

Closing Remarks

Finally, in whatever you've decided to pursue this year, apply patience, wisdom and seek God's direction.

Don't be afraid to make those moves that you know will change your life for good. There's no such thing as perfect. The year will throw its challenges ; you'd have to be sedulous to triumph.

Whether its financial stability, marriage, new house, promotion, admission to the university, or academic advancement that you've decided to pursue for the year 2020, ensure you spend time with your family and friends.

Show love to everyone including your enemy. Do not dwell on a mistake or regret.
Share ideas and wonderful memories with your loved ones.

Be deliberate about your relationship with everyone and anyone.

If you read this far, thank you. ❤
